We started the first quarter quite slowly and took a while to cooperate as a team. Our mid-court play was very fluid and worked effectively. However, Spires shooters had a good set play for attacking in the ‘D’, which meant our defence had to work hard for the rebounds.
In the second quarter the intensity increased, and the defence ameliorated their play, keeping tight on their player and jumping for every rebound. Also, the attack began to consider every option into the circle, therefore scoring more goals.
Our performance in the third quarter was improved after a major change in attacking positions, the mid-third and attacking third set-up was much faster and organised which lead to more opportunities for shots and faster play overall.
The defence had earlier turnovers and rebounds were ours 70% of the time. Also, the movement of the shooters in the circle was perfectly timed and space was also considered.
In the final quarter we worked incredibly hard, but the pressure got to us and silly errors were made, including footwork and inaccurate passes. Our target for next game is to slow down play and think about our options before trying to force the ball.
