Saturday, Swan Peridot U/14’s played Firefly’s in a League match at Places Leisure Centre, Eastleigh.
First quarter, we started with an early lead, gaining lots of turnovers, defence and the attacking team working really well together, taking ball to goal into our shooters quite easily. However, we lost a little focus resulting in a few three second penalties and obstructions. Taking on a lead of 9 - 5 to us.
In the second quarter, we maintained our lead, thus less turnovers for the other team. The attackers Bella & Milly worked really well together, we all had lots energy and support through the team, as a result are shooters Harriet and Charlotte working well to capitalize when they had the opportunity. Again we foot worked, had held ball but overall it was a really good quarter which ended it on a good goal difference. 17 - 8
Half-time we had some fresh legs and a different combination on court. We started strongly, but then lost our focus, on our decision making, giving many balls to the opposition. Firefly’s got more turnovers; they started to move the ball a lot quicker than in the last two quarters, which unsettled us. With Firefly’s gaining a bit and closing the score, we won this quarter by 1 goal. 25 -15
In the final quarter, we began to settle down, started to control the game, we got back in our stride, we then started pulling away. Amazing, team work girls, everyone doing a great job throughout the game, on the court and on the bench. Our defence did a really good job of getting interception and our team worked well together.
In total, after playing well as a team and communicating well, we remain at the top of the table.
Swan Peridots won with a convincing score of 33-19.
