U12 Aquas lose 17-1 to Peridots in league game

The chilly, rainy weather made the courts treacherous today, and indeed we had players slipping all over the place throughout (luckily no serious injuries).

We always knew this would be our toughest league fixture - against an older, taller and (above all) Swan-trained team! As it happened, we started positively, with Charlotte opening the scoring for Aquas in the first minute but unfortunately we were never able to build on that. The very assertive Peridot defence made things difficult for our shooters in the D, while their own strong passing and accurate shooting saw Peridots quickly pull ahead. We had our chances here and there - and Emily was very unlucky not to score in the last quarter with a cracking shot from distance, which literally bounced out of the hoop - but by and large Peridot dominated the game and emerged worthy winners.

The scoreline doesn't entirely reflect the amount of possession each team had - there were many key interceptions from the Aqua defence and some nice strings of passes, which unfortunately tended to break down on the edge of our D (our shooters only had nine shots on goal between them all game). Sometimes the players forgot about their banding and ended up all clustering round the ball. Nonetheless they all kept battling bravely right to the end and also had some valuable practice in how to cope with more assertive opponents, which should stand them in good stead in the future!
