Raychem Tournament Swindon

On the hottest day of the year we set off early loaded with coolbox, gazebo and plenty of fluids.
With a schedule of 12 games of 10 mins with a gap of 1 game between each the squad of 10 new it was going to be a long day.

We started off well with a good win to settle the nerves and then kept the momentum going with a further 4 wins.
The last game before lunch was against TTNC Warriors who were unbeaten as well at that point. Bev our coach for the day told the girls to play their own game, drive in front of their players and take their time moving the ball down the court.
It was close at half time with Rubies scoring just before the break to make it 4 v 1. In the 2nd half the girls pulled away with some great interceptions in defence and conversions to make the final score 9 v 2.

We had a well deserved hour break out of the sun to refuel (both parents and players) with plenty of ice on hand and homemade cakes!

Our first game back was against the home club Raychem and we started off a bit sluggish with scores level at 2 all at half time. A few tactical changes were made and the girls moved ahead to win 7 v 5 to keep our winning run going.
With another good win next we then came up against Lawn Netball Club (Raychem's local rivals) who were unbeaten like ourselves.
The girls new this could be the deciding game for the Tournament. They started off well with some great play with turnovers and then conversions from Grace to give us a 5 v 2 lead at the break. The 2nd half was a replica of the first as the opposition became frustrated and the girls moved away to finally win 13 v 6.
It was now a case of keeping the girls focused, well fuelled and staying out of the heat for as long as we could. Ice lollies helped!
The final 3 games produced some great results and when the final whistle blew against Spires Thunder the smiles said it all.
A very tired but excited bunch who worked for one another and supported each other when not on court.

A big thank you to Bev for standing in for the day as our coach and too all the Mum's for the food, drink and support.

Thanks to Nora and her team of volunteers from Raychem who made the day such an enjoyable one and i am sure we will be back next year.
