Great Comeback exciting finish!

Today’s match against Weston was always going to be tough with a replacement coach and lots of nerves, the young swans went onto court with understandable butterflies.

The first quarter proved difficult for the team to settle into their flow and 12-5 down at the end of the Qtr lead to a regroup and some tactical changes. The girls went back on court, each with their personal targets. The defence aim was to try to get the best possible rebound position and the attack needed to keep calm.

The second quarter showed improvement. The Rubies settled down and got more into the game. Great shooting from the attack meant that at half time, there were just 8 goals in it. The 3rd quarter was awesome. A couple of more tactical changes and the Rubies were off to a flying start. Goal after goal went in, the defence turning over any ball that came their way and converted at the other end. After a swift 17 goals scored by the end of the third quarter Rubies were up by 2, and had fire in their bellies to achieve the win.

The main points made at the quarter time were to keep calm, we knew we were ahead so we needed to ensure we kept focused and working as a team both on and off the court. It was tense and nervous for everyone with great support and the noise level was intense. And so, 15 minutes later, the hooter sounded and they had won, the final score 37 – 35. The smiles told it all!
