Sapphires Win First Hampshire League Match

What an amazing start to the 2018/19 Season. Our first match, our first time playing together as a team and we totally smashed it!

The first quarter was spent getting everyone settled into position – Zoe had asked the team to keep the pace steady and controlled. Both sides seemed very evenly matched at first, with each team scoring from their Centre Pass with the first quarter ending on nine goals each. Much of the same in the second quarter, ending with Sapphires leading by one goal. It was tense to say the least! Sapphires upped their game in the third quarter – with accurate passing, everyone playing forward and getting in front of the opposition – with some brilliant interceptions from Daisy in defence and some fantastic tipping from Orla at GK. Outstanding shooting from Eloise and Claudia in the circle extended Sapphires lead to 33 from Spires’ 27. Everyone maintained their high energy and focus in the final quarter to win the match 45 - 36.

Coach, Zoe Biddlecombe said, “Excellent win for the first game. Lots of positives and lots of things to work on - for now continuing to be a ball hungry team, particularly on the defence.“

Spires chose Orla as their Player of the Match.
