In the first quarter, Swan’s defensive pressure was strong throughout the court, as well as confidently bringing the ball down court. Swan finished the first quarter 11-4, keeping possession through the quarter and 2 held balls due to the pressure every player applied to the opposition. There were excellent drives throughout the court as well as many tips and interceptions.
The second quarter started with determination to continue our lead. Although our passing had gotten a bit sloppy, we were reminded to continue with simple passes in order to keep it calm when we were in possession. Second quarter continued with Swan’s lead: 18-12.
Quarter 3 started with a few changes from both teams. Defensive pressure dropped and our drives became more lateral leading to us losing the quarter Swan 23-27.
In quarter 4, with an amazing and much needed pep talk from Nic, we regained composure and determination, resulting to more tips and interceptions. Throughout the quarter and especially the tense last few minutes Swan were able to regain the lead with equalising and then winning in the last 2 minutes.
The final score was 38-35. It was a tough but well fought game that we all knew we could win and we were glad the end result reflected that.
