Third game into the season and we took to the court knowing it was going to be a tough one, against a strong Winchester side, and with us having new combinations in both the attacking and defensive D. Nevertheless, each player on court was determined to start the game well. From the get go the defensive pressure throughout court was fierce and we created turnover balls. But then when bringing the ball through court, we were hiding behind players and our passing was slightly off, finishing Q1 10-17 to Winchester.
Nic quickly reminded us of what we worked on in training, being loud and communicating along with some tips on better controlled passing, and more effective positioning in the attacking D. These tips all paid off as we applied them well and we won quarter 2, bringing the score up to 29-25.
In Q3 the Winchester defence doubled up on our GS meaning movement became restricted. Meanwhile all over court we were getting plenty of tips to ball, turning over possession but unfortunately not capitalising the turnover. Our hard work wasn’t being rewarded.
Q4 saw a change in our GS and onto court came Claudia and what an impact she had. Some really strong holds in the D and fantastic shooting - great to have you back on court. Last quarter was drawn meaning final score was 44-56.
A really hard fought game and a great result considering the strong opposition.
