First match a draw!

We had a brilliant first match against CD Phoenix on the weekend which left everyone on the edge of their seats! We started with a strong first quarter, with a few mistakes, but some excellent shooting as we were getting into the groove of things after being off for so long! By the end of this quarter Phoenix was leading 17-11. With them pulling ahead we made a few changes and brought Alice on at goal keeper and Nia at wing defence. This quarter was extremely exciting and had some brilliant play. We executed many turnovers and were able to get these to goal. We finished this fantastic quarter 24-20 to us! We then brought Emily on as wing defence and Mair at wing attack and had some excellent drives and interceptions. after a very intense 2nd quarter we had got a bit tired and in this quarter Phoenix ended up pulling ahead by one goal leaving the score at 35-34 to them. This was leading to a very exiting final quarter! We knew we had to bring intensity! We then put Erin back at centre with some brilliant speed and Nia back at wing defence, with Amelia at wing attack. During this final quarter Anna, playing at goal keeper, was injured, which disrupted the play a bit, but the girls carried on like professionals and knew they had to bring it. Tatiana then came on and as the final few minutes arrived we knew we had to give it our all. With a few minutes to go Phoenix were leading by three. With some incredible turnovers at the last minute we were able to bring back the score to 47-47 at the end whistle, leaving everyone biting their nails! This was an excellent first game back, with Erin being Phoenix’s player of the match and Alice being the team’s choice for player of the match!
