A spirited performance

U11 Coral had a lot to get used to, fast, in their first game of the Blue Jays Hi5 tournament, playing against Spire Ice. Unused to playing with only 5 players on court, out of usual position, and with their other 4 team members watching from the sidelines, the team took a good while to settle down. At the end of the 1st six minutes of play ( half time) they were 2.0 ahead. Positions rotated for the 2nd half of the match, but Swan were yet to settle down into their usual composed and accurate play. They game end in a 2.2 draw.
Getting more used to Hi 5 netball in their second match, U11 coral began to settle down and find their form and went on to beat CTG10 5.2.

There 3rd match was against Lawn White. Coral were quickly able to settle into their new positions and got ahead in the first half. The score was 4.2 to Swan at half time. In the second half, with another rotation of position, they continued to play well, winning 8.3.

By their 4th Match U11 coral were playing really good netball, defending and attacking well and, despite playing out of position, shooting with success. The team beat Blue Jays Yellow 13.0.

Coral had a good chance of getting into the Semi finals, they needed to win their last match by 5 goals to be top of their group.

Expecting a strong opposition, U11 Coral put out a strong team ( Jilly had planned the rotation to this effect!) against Bournemouth in their 5th match. Good passing up court and success in shooting found them 5.0 up at the end of the 1st half. Another rotation, and Coral continued to play well. Final score against Bournemouth 12.0. Coral had reached the Semi finals.

Having fielded such a strong team in the 5th Match, the rotation meant that most players were out of position, and strong shooters and defenders off court for part of this match. However, Coral rose to the occasion and provided a display of brilliant netball against Spire Ice and a nail biting match for all to applaud. 0.4 down at the end of the first half, and with only 6 minutes of play left to turn the score around, the team went back on court in their final rotation of positions. In an excellent exhibition of calm, confident and determined play, the girls worked hard to get the score to 3.4. With scores almost level, the crowd went wild, and the team were under immense pressure to equalize. However, Spire ice were fighting hard too, and were next to score. One goal down, with the score at 4.5, and less than two minutes of play left, Coral played outstanding netball. The noise from both teams supporters was deafening, but Coral kept their heads and scored again in the last 20 seconds of play. The whistle went. Final Score: Coral 4.Spire Ice 5. A briliant display of netball , from both teams, our girls can hold their heads up high! They had played excellent netball and done all they could. Spire Ice went on to win the Tournament.
