Swan Aqua vs WPB 2/3/19
The two top teams in the Hamshire u13 league met today for a battle which may well decide the outcome of the final league tables on 16th March 2019.
Both teams eagerly took to the court and the tension was palpable from the first whistle.
Despite good defensive and attacking play during the first quarter, Swan was trailing by 4 goals at the end of quarter 1.
Creative positional changes for quarter 2 started to pay off with the WPB attack being more constrained with fewer opportunities to score whilst the Swan attack enjoyed a bit more freedom. WPB was unable to extend their first quarter lead but maintained the advantage of their quick start.
With the score at 15 - 11 in WPB's favour the young Swan team appeared to find a completely different gear in quarter 3. Swan's defensive play was outstanding and rewarded with several turnovers whilst the action in their own goal circle was superb creating many chances to reduce the deficit. The combination of tenacious defense and decisive attack proved too much for the WPB team who appeared stunned by the Swan onslaught. Swan deservedly ended the quarter with a 23-17 lead.
With adrenaline pumping the young Swans came out in the last quarter to build on their excellent work in quarter 3, and did so very effectively. WPB did not seem to have answers to the questions asked by the Swan team despite their best efforts. Swan powereded ahead to a well-deserved 30 -19 win - an excellent result!
Huge thanks to parents, supporters and the coaching team.
