Amethysts finish 3rd in Wimborne Tournament

We got off to a bold start in our first match, against Wimborne's A team, two quick goals from Izzy and a belter from Ruby from the edge of the D putting us 3-0 up in the first few minutes. But we struggled to maintain momentum and in the second half Wimborne staged a strong comeback, eventually winning the game 11-4.
Ten minutes off court and then we were back on again, facing Wimborne's B team. Here we took a comfortable lead early on and managed to hang on to it with strong mid-court play from Erin, Poppy, Emily W and Jessica, to finish the match 4-2.
We managed to build on that success in our third games against Peeks, with Emily P and Erin's accurate passing keeping the ball down in our third and Ruby firing in shot after shot from all over the D - another win for us, 7-0.
Our final game was against our fellow Swans and rivals, Corals, and as at our previous encounter, it was a very close game between two evenly matched teams. Two fine goals from Ruby and Holly gave us an early lead, but Coral soon equalised, and the game turned into a real nail-biter, with the action moving from end to end. Despite feisty defensive work from Ella, Poppy and Emily W, Coral started creeping ahead, but, ignoring their tiredness, the girls gave it their all; we had our chances and managed to pull back one goal, but in the end Coral once again managed that extra goal to win 5-4. An exciting game and a very creditable result from Amethyst against the tournament winners.
In summary we won 2 and lost 2 and finished 3rd, in the middle of the table. We saw some excellent netball - well done to all the girls for their hard work and a special well done to Ella for her level-headed play in her first netball match! Thanks to all the parents for their support as well!
