Amethysts in nailbiting battle with fellow Swannies

Coral took a decisive early lead on this damp and chilly afternoon, netting four straight goals in the first quarter, during which Ruby was forced to retire temporarily after hurting her foot in an unlucky fall. However, Amethysts gritted their teeth and fought back with great determination in the second quarter, chasing down every ball. Ruby moved to defence, where she and Holly prevented Corals from scoring any more, while Sienna managed to get one back for Amethysts at the other end. In the third quarter the momentum swung even more firmly Amethysts' way and we really started piling on the pressure, with more heroic defending from Holly and Ruby and fast and accurate passing in the midcourt. Jess, in C, seemed to be everywhere at once, and linked well with wings Emily, Poppy and Sophie to pass the ball down into our third. Nifty action in the D led to a goal from Izzy and two more from Sienna, making the score 4-4 at the end of the quarter. Could Amethysts snatch victory in the final quarter? Well, we certainly tried, and had our chances to net that elusive fifth goal, but it was not to be; in the end it was Corals who managed to sneak another goal in the final minutes of the game. Overall, a close and exciting match between two very evenly matched teams who both played some superb netball. Fantastic effort all round!
