Up & Down Day

U14 Rubies traveled to Milton Keynes to play MK Netters in their latest south region match.

Both teams held a minutes silence at the start of the game for Remembrance Day and it was wonderful to see the respect they showed.

Despite having reduced defensive options, the players started strongly and positively finishing just behind 9-13 at the end of the first quarter. The momentum and effort continued in the second quarter with both teams playing very skillful netball and Rubies dealing with the physicality of the game extremely well.
At half time the score was 23 - 17 to MK Netters.
The third quarter showed Rubies starting to make errors that crept into their performance and the opposition pulled away in this quarter.
Winning it 38-21. Aisling at Center had to come off through injury, which unsettled the squad for a while, as Claudia stepped into the breach of a new role for her and coped admirably.
However in true Rubies style they never gave up, with changes in the last quarter with Niah taking the Center position and keeping going to the final whistle, with Daisy at WD and Claudia at WA. Grace and Maddie in the defensive circle in the last quarter increased in confidence and were awesome gaining tips interceptions and turnovers, really putting pressure on the tall shooters to ensure Rubies won the last quarter.
Final score 42-26 to MK Netters- but a well deserved point by Rubies. Special mention and thanks to Grace,Claudia and Niah who were asked to play out of position for much of the game and to Sophie and Skye for some great shooting.

Very proud to take such a team who showed such mental resilience despite lots of challenges.
