It appeared that Ambers used the first quarter of this match to lull the opposition into a false sense of security! Fireflys got off to a confident start to win the first quarter 6 – 3. However, what happened next was a joy to watch. In the second quarter, Ambers found their stride – passing was more accurate, defence was stronger and fewer technical errors were made mid field resulting in Ambers winning the quarter 9 – 7 to close the gap at half time 12-13 to Fireflys. It was more of the same in the third quarter which Ambers won 8-4, but it was the fourth quarter when Ambers really shone!
With Daisy back in WD, she must have jumped three feet into the air to intercept one ball, everyone was ball side driving forward at pace, defence was pressured, fearless and relentless, shooting by Dolly and Claudia was accurate and Ambers dominated possession. Fireflys did not stand a chance scoring just three goals in the last quarter meaning Ambers absolutely smashed it to win the match 31 goals to 20. Throughout the match, there were 35 Tips and 16 Interceptions, with two converted into goals. Coach Jenny was immensely proud and described the team’s performance as 'awesome'. She said, "Circle work was outstanding by all shooters and defenders throughout – everyone did what was asked of them". Claudia at GS was chosen by both Fireflies and the Coach as Player of the Match, but special mention must also go to Sarah for outstanding play as WD and C. Excellent play Ambers – bring on the next match!
