Saturday’s match was a great opportunity for the girls to put all their recent training into practice. And they did! Sapphires got off to an outstanding start, driving forward, going for every turn over opportunity and scoring seven goals from eight interceptions. Everyone displayed great movement, accurate passing and with some incredible shooting, the quarter ended 19-7 to Sapphires. However, Dreams really upped their game in the second quarter. Sapphires made a few silly mistakes, working too fast and giving away balls allowing Dreams to win the quarter by one goal, 11 – 10. At half time, the score was 29 – 18 to Sapphires. A quick chat from coach, Zoe resulted in the team getting back to their first quarter form during the third quarter. The girls slowed down and thought more carefully about their next move. Defence was fearless, everyone was looking for space and driving with determination towards the goal to win the quarter 16-6. It was much the same story in the final quarter - the girls maintained their energy and pace but were steady, controlled and moved cleanly around the court to win the match comprehensively 57 – 33.
Sapphires scored 22 goals from 33 interceptions and shooting accuracy was overall at 75%.
Aisling Dunne was chosen by Dreams as their Player of the Match.
Well done Sapphires!
