With a team of 8 players we played Andover Arrows who are top of the league having won 3 of all their games so far. With two Swan players struggling with illness too it was always going to be tough. They were physical side and in the first quarter we worked hard but the Andover defence was good and we found it hard to get it into the circle to shoot. End Q1 4-11
In Q2 we switched around a bit with Sonja coming on as GK, but up front the Andover defensive team continued to keep out the shooters and Andover extended their lead by 3 despite some strong turnovers in defence and mid court, Izzy working well to keep the ball forwards. End Q2 10-24 (Q scores 6-13)
The second half was a different story as players switched places again and Andover began to tire. Sonja moved in to GS, Hannah and Jenny switched WD and C and there was a lot of determination and focus making it an almost even quarter. Kate and Lucy worked as a team in defence and began to break down the Andover attack and and at the end of Q3 it was 17-32 (Q scores 7-8)
In the final Q the team worked really hard for each other and wore Andover down comfortably winning the Q. The passing was more fluid and faster which split the opposition and opened up opportunities. Martha played well in WA feeding in to Mantha who had spent the whole game running round in GA, making some strong drives. Overall an improving team performance against an experienced team and we look forward to playing them again.
Full Time 26-37 (Q scores 9-5)
