The Seniors have a successful trip St Albans, despite the weather!

A long but very easy journey took a depleted South Region squad to the SAS tournament in Hertfordshire. Having pulled in a few other players, plus friends, we managed to get out a team of 9 for the long day ahead. Our group stages consisted of playing against Bears 1, Baldock, Crosskeys, Omega, Mitchenden and Norfolk United, and we had no idea of what to expect from the teams. With only 12 minute games (6 minute halves) we were taken aback as to how good some of the teams proved to be; only winning 2 of our group stage games.

With our heads still held high, we thought we'd be competing within the Plate competition (the tournament was split into a cup and plate). However, much to our surprise, we ended up being drawn in the bottom section of the cup!. Having been drawn against The Downs and Billericay we had to win 2 of these games to get to the quarter finals. Since the start of the day, as results didn't go our way, we didn't think we would get that far! Alas, after 2 comfortable wins we then drew Manor in the quarter finals.

We then went and won (8-7) before the rain started to really kick in! The semi finals drew us against Royals (a national league side), but we were not to be defeated just yet. Both teams started off very slow and there were a few dropped balls (as a result of the monsoon we were playing in!) but unfortunately we could not keep possession and lost a bit of momentum after a long and tiring day.

Nevertheless, a successful day reaching the semi finals, after what started as a slow and lengthy process!
